Titles

The titles in every type of film tend to follow the same pattern as the show there titles.

it often starts with the distributor name/logo as seen here:

then comes the production companies,

they then show us the director,

now it starts with the cast with the most important first leading to the least,

after it has shown the important characters it shows the title of the film,

it will then go through the lesser characters,

after these have finished it will start the crew from the least important to the most,

this should always be the final title in the sequence.

The titles are important to the audience as they introduce them to the type of film, this is dependent on the type, colour, size and weather the font is a serif. A serif font would indicate a more serious film, and the size and colour help to identify the audience of the film.

Vertigo analysis.

Titles

The titles in the sequence are used to introduce the actors and job roles of the cast. the actors appear in the order of relevance from the most important to the least starting with James Stewart and moving on through the rest of the cast, it then moves onto the crew leading with the least important and continuing onto the most important which is the director Alfred Hitchcock.

The titles are using a white serif font against a black background this is to give the film a serious feel to it and give the audience clues to the fact that the film will be for mature audiences not for children.

Sound

The sound in the opening sequence to vertigo is made up of dark low orchestral tones with higher pitched notes to make the audience feel uncomfortable.
They use a sting in the close up of the lips, this is done to create angst and worry among the audience as it is intended to make them feel as if something is about to happen.

momento opening sequence analysis.

The opening sequence of memento shows good use of cinematography as it uses lots of extreame close ups to limit what the audience forcing them to draw conclusions as to what has happend and why they are being ahown these images. at the start of the memento clip we are shown quite a graphic photo of what we suspect is a murder. strait away this causes the viewer to ask questions like why is he dead? what reason do they have for needing him dead? who killed him? ect.

The editing in this clip is very slow paced editing throughout the clip. Very quickly the veiwer should realise that the shot are being shown in reverse, this would have been added in post production, they would have done this to make the audience feel uneasy about the situation that has been presented in front of them. The titles in this opening sequence are blue this connotes that the film is of a cold and unforgiving nature, the font that they use in this film is a serif font they would use this to show the seriousness of the film.
The mise en scene in this opening sequence tells us that the man that has killed the man is very professional we know this because he is dreassed in a suit and seems confident when killing the othere man, he shows no sign of remorse, he could possibly be a hired assissin as he takes a photograpgh of his kill as proof, this is where the title momento comes from as he could be taking these photos as a momento of his kills.

The difrences between a opening sequence and a trailer

There are several diffrences between an opening sequence and a trailer one being that an opening sequence is used to introduce the audience to the film/tv show that they are watching and that a trailer is used to advertise the film to the audience by taking clips from all over the film and using them to draw in their target audience. here are some examples of trailers and opeing sequences.

Iron Man 3 Trailer.

The Hobbit Trailer.

elementry opening sequence.

The sporanos opening sequence

trailers tend to use a voiceover to emphasize the story behind the film where as opening sequences use music to give the audience a sence of what is to come for example the elementy opening sequence uses mysterious music in an attempt to show the audience that the series is about mysterys and crime.
