What have new technologies allowed you to do that old ones wouldn’t?

What have new technologies allowed you to do that old ones wouldn’t?

new technologys such as final cut and live type have allowed me to edit my film in new ways as they are more professional and have more options that imovie. final cut allowed me to export our movie with the titles over the top. we have used live type to do our titles instead of using imove this allows me to have a much greater range of options.

What technologies need careful use or planning?

What technologies need careful use or planning?

The camera and tripod need careful use and planning this is because you need to know boht when and who to use the camera and tripod. if you are not careful and you use the camera and tripod you could end up with the wrong footage or breaking it.

Another technology that requires planning and careful use is final cut as it is a complex program and things can go wrong very quickly.

Q6.What technologies have you developed your skills in?

What technologies have you developed your skills in?
I have developed my skills in many areas, firstly i have developed my skills when using the camera and tripod.

I have developed using the camera and tripod by being able to hold a steady shot when appropriate.
I have developed my skills using imove as I have learned many thing about how to export and how to edit effectively in post preduction.

Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

There are some similarities and differences between my preliminary task and my opening sequence, since filming my preliminary i feel more confident in my ability's to use and control the camera in the way I want to, I think this is because of the amount of practise that I have had with the camera.

one similarity in my preliminary task and my finished sequence is the use of shot reverse shot as you can see here.

we chose to use a shot reverse shot in both our preliminary and our thriller opening sequence because it is an effective storytelling tool.
another storytelling tool that we used in both our preliminary and our opening sequence is a match on action shot, this is important as it helps to keep the continuity consistent throughout.

Another similarity between the preliminary and the final sequence is that they both follow the 180°.
This is done in the pre lim as I walk over to the table the camera datys on the left side of me.
This is also done in the finished product when shaun walks through the gate as we stay on the right side of him.

Q5 part 1
we asked our target audience what they thought of our film.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

This is the Artificial Eye logo.
We used Artificial Eye as our distributor. Artificial eye would have released other films that are similar to our own film, these would have been mainly from the thriller genre. They would be a distributor that would distribute nationally, this is because of the locations used throughout the film would be something that local people would recognise. other films that Artificial eye would have distributed would have been essential killing and I Anna.
we chose artifical eye because it is an independent distributer that would have distributed many other films like our film.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Here is a mindmap of what we think our demographic would be.

we asked our target demographic a few questions about the genre of our film.

From this feedback we were able to establish that our audience enjoys to watch thrillers regularly, this also gave us ideas as to what our audience would expect from our film.

how does your media product represent particular social groups?

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

This is our victim from our film.
this is the antagonist in our opening sequence.
In our media product we portray the criminal as a white, male, young adult around the age of 18. He would be shown as a violent character as the piece would continue. where as we portray our victim as a white, male, child probably no older then ten and so he is seen as a very vulnerable and innocent character.we portray our victim this way because it helps add to how we can portray our criminal. Our criminal is portrayed in such a way the we see him prey on the weak and innocent without a moments regret, also the fact that this kidnapping was clearly premeditated tells us about his mentality and that he would be unstable. this stereotypes the older teenage group as criminals.

in what ways does your media product use devlope or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our media piece is able to use one of the eight media conventions which are; titles, establishing shot, equilibrium and disequilibrium, close ups, establishing the theme, soundtrack, logos, and finally giving clues to the audience. these conventions help towards making the theme of the film clear. one film that uses the convention of using lots of close ups is memento, during the opening sequence we only see little bits of the killer at a time and close ups of objects that relate to him.

this is an example of a close up.

we use this convention in the same way as we show our character piece by piece in order to make the the audience ask why each shot is significant.

this is how we used close ups to slowly reveal our character.

Another film that does this is "Brick", it stars off slow building a picture of what happened there and by the end of the opening sequence we are unsure as to weather he was the perpetrator. one example form our own film that works well is when he puts the piece of card into his pocket the audience are wondering what it could be and how does it relate to the audience. we also used the logos to our advantage by making our own logo we could pick what the audience saw and so when the logo is on screen we have used a static electricity sound effect. this would already cause the audience to ask questions because they would not be expecting it
this is our production company logo that we created.

The genre of our opening sequence is a thriller. Thrillers use the characters,  the theme, mise en scene, music, cinematography and editing to create a suspenseful thriller movie, one way in which i think we did this really well is with our music as we use a low droning sound to with very little natural sound in order to make the audience realize that something is not right and is about to go wrong. one film that does this really well is "the sixth sense" as it uses a a similar soundtrack to ours and makes it work with the genre.

Titles: Font ideas.

This is a wordle that we created to help us decide on what font styles to choose.
Wordle: titles wordle
I think by using a serif font for the titles of the cast and crew it will make our production look more professional as it would be following the conventions of the thriller genre.

cast/crew font idear 1:
I think this would be a good font to use beacuse it gives the veiwer the impression that the film is quite a serious one.

cast/crew font idear 2:
I dont think that this would be as an effective font in comparison to choice one as it doesnt look as serious as the first font.

film name font ideas.

I like this font for the film name I think it is intersting and also looks visually appealing to the audience.

film name font idear 2:
i also think that this would be an effective font as it would allow the audiene to get ideas about what the film would involve. i think it would be an intersting twist to the title.

Location ideas.

1. A riverbank

This could be used for the dumping of the "child's body" in the bag after he has been abducted.the flowing river gives the place a cold uneasy feel as all of the trees near the river are dead.

2. A Forrest with a path.

This could be used to  show the abductor waking through the path over to the river bank. with all of the dead. dying trees around the path it is given a quite isolated feel.

3.a residential road.

This road could be used as the abduction location as it is quite a quiet residential street with little traffic allowing us to crate a uneasy and erie feel to the street.

Costume List

1. Shaun would have quite dark clothing to portray quite a sinister outllook to the audience, this would make the audience start to think that not all is as it seems and something bad is going to happen because of this man.he would wear a black jumper possibly something with a hood or something to cover his face. and dark jeans.
2. The Child would wear bright colourful clothing that contrasts the dark clothing of the abductor. from the bright colours the audience might think that the child is happy and innocent.

Prop List

1. A Bike - this is for the child to ride down a deserted road before being abducted. the fact that he is riding down a deserted road alone makes the audience think that the child is in danger.

2. A Photograph of the child that is being abducted - this is so Shaun can burn the photograph of the child after the abduction. this could indicate to the audience that the child is a specific victim not just a victim of chance. which makes the audience want to find out why.

3. A Large bag - this is to put the abducted "child" in - we will fill it up with something weighted to give the impression that someone is in the bag. the audience would believe that the child is in the bag and they would be worried for his safety as for all the audience know he could be dead in the bag.
