how does your media product represent particular social groups?

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

This is our victim from our film.
this is the antagonist in our opening sequence.
In our media product we portray the criminal as a white, male, young adult around the age of 18. He would be shown as a violent character as the piece would continue. where as we portray our victim as a white, male, child probably no older then ten and so he is seen as a very vulnerable and innocent character.we portray our victim this way because it helps add to how we can portray our criminal. Our criminal is portrayed in such a way the we see him prey on the weak and innocent without a moments regret, also the fact that this kidnapping was clearly premeditated tells us about his mentality and that he would be unstable. this stereotypes the older teenage group as criminals.

in what ways does your media product use devlope or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our media piece is able to use one of the eight media conventions which are; titles, establishing shot, equilibrium and disequilibrium, close ups, establishing the theme, soundtrack, logos, and finally giving clues to the audience. these conventions help towards making the theme of the film clear. one film that uses the convention of using lots of close ups is memento, during the opening sequence we only see little bits of the killer at a time and close ups of objects that relate to him.

this is an example of a close up.

we use this convention in the same way as we show our character piece by piece in order to make the the audience ask why each shot is significant.

this is how we used close ups to slowly reveal our character.

Another film that does this is "Brick", it stars off slow building a picture of what happened there and by the end of the opening sequence we are unsure as to weather he was the perpetrator. one example form our own film that works well is when he puts the piece of card into his pocket the audience are wondering what it could be and how does it relate to the audience. we also used the logos to our advantage by making our own logo we could pick what the audience saw and so when the logo is on screen we have used a static electricity sound effect. this would already cause the audience to ask questions because they would not be expecting it
this is our production company logo that we created.

The genre of our opening sequence is a thriller. Thrillers use the characters,  the theme, mise en scene, music, cinematography and editing to create a suspenseful thriller movie, one way in which i think we did this really well is with our music as we use a low droning sound to with very little natural sound in order to make the audience realize that something is not right and is about to go wrong. one film that does this really well is "the sixth sense" as it uses a a similar soundtrack to ours and makes it work with the genre.
